Whitefish & Columbia Falls

Columbia Falls is a small community less than 20 miles south of West Glacier. It takes its name from its location on the south fork of the Flathead River, one of the headwaters of the Columbia River, and its spot in the shadow of Columbia Mountain. In the summertime, visitors enjoy tours of the Hungry Horse Dam, or camping, floating, fly fishing or whitewater rafting. In the winter, they take advantage of miles of groomed snowmobile trails.

Whitefish is adjacent to Glacier National Park, and the community boasts a mix of a charming, small-town feel combined with restaurants, galleries, shopping and nightlife. Whitefish is also home to theatre companies, golf courses, trails and the railway depot for Amtrak’s Empire Builder route that stretches from Chicago to Portland and Seattle. Skiers and snowboarders enjoy Whitefish Mountain Resort while the Glacier Nordic Center caters to cross country skiers.
